Food and drink
- Halal meals
Airline policyOman Air's Muscat caterer says all the meals it provides are halal.
Oman Air Catering, the airline's catering company at Muscat International Airport, says all meals it provides are halal; its list of religious meals has no separate Muslim meal. We found nothing on meals catered at other airports.
- Does the meal turn up
Traveller or press reportOne traveller's special meals arrived on both legs of a 2025 London trip; none are guaranteed.
A Flight-Report member's special meal was served very hot about an hour into a Muscat to London economy flight in September 2025, and on the return from London special meals were served first, about 15 minutes after take-off, though the service was slow. Oman Air's Conditions of Carriage say it cannot guarantee special meals.
- Alcohol on board
Airline policyAlcohol is served in economy and at the Muscat lounge bar; no dry routes are published.
Oman Air's economy dining page offers a choice of alcoholic, non-alcoholic, hot or cold drinks, and its Muscat business lounge has a fully stocked bar serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. We found no published exception for dry routes such as Saudi Arabia or Kuwait.
- Ramadan
Traveller or press reportTrade press reported iftar boxes in all cabins on select Ramadan flights; the airline's site has no Ramadan page.
Travel & Tourism News reported that Oman Air reintroduced its signature iftar boxes on select flights during Ramadan, in all cabin classes, with fresh fruit, finger sandwiches, dates, maamoul and laban, alongside Ramadan-themed entertainment, while full dining stayed available for other guests. We found no Ramadan page on Oman Air's own site.
- Amenity kit
Traveller or press reportBusiness lavatories stock Amouage fragrances; one traveller found economy kits out of stock.
A business class review describes lavatories stocked with Amouage toiletries, including hand cream and fragrances. Oman Air's economy page advertises amenity kits, but a traveller on a September 2025 Muscat to London flight was told by crew they were out of stock. Oman Air publishes no ingredient information.
Prayer
- Water for istinja
Traveller or press reportReviewers found bidets in 787-9 business class lavatories; Oman Air does not advertise them.
Two business class reviews of Oman Air's 787-9, Muscat to Bangkok and Paris to Muscat, describe bidets in the business class lavatories. Oman Air does not mention them, and we found nothing similar documented for economy or the 737 fleet.
- Prayer rooms in lounges
Airline policyThe business lounge in Muscat has male and female prayer rooms.
Oman Air's own Business Studio / Business Class lounge at Muscat International Airport contains male and female prayer rooms. This is airline-controlled provision inside the lounge, distinct from the Oman Airports prayer rooms in the public terminal. No wudu or ablution facility is described in either of the airline's two descriptions of the lounge.
Crew and service
- Hijab in crew uniform
Traveller or press reportTrade press says the uniform's hat and veil come off once boarding is complete.
Simple Flying reports that Oman Air's cabin crew uniform includes a hat and veil that are taken off once the aircraft has boarded and put back on before disembarkation. We found no Oman Air policy on crew wearing a hijab for religious reasons.
- Crew training
Traveller or press reportThe one first-hand economy account found crew "helpful, but not really friendly".
No faith-specific crew training, briefing or service protocol is published. The one dated first-hand Economy account we could read describes crew as 'helpful, but not really friendly' and records no religious interaction in either direction.
Seating and families
- Sitting together as a family
Airline policySeat selection costs extra on the two cheapest economy fares; families are normally seated together.
Seat selection is a paid extra on Economy Super Saver and Economy Comfort fares and included from Economy Flex upward. Oman Air says families are normally given seats together unless they check in late, when crew will try to help, subject to other passengers agreeing to move. We found no free-seating exemption for families with children.
- Changing seats
Airline policyNo seat is guaranteed; crew will try to reseat a split family if another passenger agrees.
Oman Air's Conditions of Carriage say it cannot guarantee any seat and may reassign seats at any time, even after boarding. Its Special Services page says families who check in late may be split, and crew will try to help, subject to other passengers' willingness to move. We found no provision for reseating a passenger on grounds of modesty.
Hajj, Umrah and routes
- Zamzam water
Airline policyUp to 5 litres of Zamzam fly free from Jeddah, Madinah or Taif, but not from other Saudi cities.
Passengers travelling from Jeddah, Madinah or Taif may bring up to 5 litres of Zamzam water as checked baggage in addition to the baggage allowance; it is not permitted from other cities in Saudi Arabia. The water must be sealed and packed in government-approved packaging.
- Routes to Muslim-majority countries
Traveller or press reportA Wikipedia list counts 43 destinations, including Jeddah, Medina, Riyadh and Dammam.
Wikipedia's list of Oman Air destinations counts 43 destinations in 24 countries, including Dammam, Jeddah, Medina and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. Oman Air's own baggage FAQ refers to passengers travelling from Jeddah, Madinah and Taif.
