Sourcing and editorial policy

Our standards for evidence, verified sources, human editorial authorship, and research integrity.

Sourcing principles

Halal Gourmet is founded on the conviction that trust requires evidence. When travellers, families, and diners consult our platform, they rely on our data to make choices aligned with their faith and personal standards.

Every factual statement across our directories, guides, and dossiers adheres to clear evidentiary rules:

  • Primary sources: Factual claims must trace directly to official documents, certifier registers, airline operational statements, or government directories.
  • Stated dates: Every verified claim displays the date our research team confirmed the information.
  • No assumed defaults: If an airline does not clarify whether alcohol is used in sauces, or if a restaurant does not state the source of its poultry, we record that detail as not disclosed. We never fill gaps with optimistic assumptions.

Editorial independence

Our editorial choices are made without commercial influence:

  • No paid placement: Businesses cannot pay for inclusion, higher search ranking, or elevated trust levels.
  • Objective directory listings: A restaurant is listed because it meets our geographic and culinary scope, not because of a commercial sponsorship.
  • Independent reviews: Reviews represent genuine experiences of registered members. Business owners may publish formal replies, but they cannot edit or remove authentic member critiques.

Authorship and automated tools

Our articles, recipes, and regional guides reflect careful research and human curation:

  • Named human authors: Long-form editorial pieces, culinary essays, and city features carry the byline of the human writer who researched and wrote the work. Third-party material is never misattributed to our staff.
  • We use AI models to research and draft content. Every factual claim must cite a source and is checked against that source before it is published. AI-drafted text is never published under a person's name. We never generate reviews, ratings or community posts.

Photography standards

Visual presentation follows strict honesty rules:

  • Real subjects: Photographs depict the actual dish, dining room, mosque, or aircraft referenced. We do not use generic stock photography to represent a specific kitchen or establishment.
  • Clear licensing and credit: All images credit their respective photographers and state the applicable copyright or open license terms, including works reproduced from Wikimedia Commons.
  • Unaltered visuals: We do not place text banners, promotional ribbons, or artificial rating badges across editorial images.
