Malay Mail reported that when Malaysia Airlines ended its contract with the caterer Brahim's on 1 September 2023, all special meals, Chef-on-Call and pre-booked meals were unavailable on affected routes, and passengers with special dietary needs were advised to bring their own food; non-halal meals were not allowed on board.

Malaysia Airlines told Free Malaysia Today in 2017 that a prayer is shown for 15 seconds on every screen before take-off, a practice since 2014. The MHstudio Religious catalogue includes wudu and seated-prayer guides (Amal Panduan Wudhu, Amal Panduan Solat Duduk) and Tadarus Al-Quran. Amal pilgrimage flights add Talbiah audio at boarding, Musaffir prayers, and Azan, Tazkirah and Miqat announcements.

Traveller or press reportA former group chief says Muslim crew may wear hijab; a Muslim group has urged the airline to allow it.

Former Malaysia Aviation Group managing director Izham said the airline had made adjustments for Muslim crew, including the option of wearing hijab, and that Amal crew now also fly routes such as London and Tokyo. The Muslim organisation IKRAM has called on Malaysia Airlines to let its cabin crew wear hijab on duty.

We found no court case, regulator finding or credible press report of Malaysia Airlines profiling, offloading or refusing service to a Muslim passenger. Travel Weekly reported that flight MH122 returned to Sydney after a passenger made bomb threats; he was seen praying on a mat in the aisle and was arrested after landing.

Airline policySeats are free for the whole booking when travelling with an infant; nothing similar for children aged 2 to 11.

When a booking includes an infant, bassinets are free and everyone else on the booking can choose Standard or Extra Legroom seats free of charge. On the A330neo, bassinets are only in Extra Legroom seats, which carry a fee; on the A350-900, standard-seat bassinets are free and Extra Legroom ones are charged. We found no free seating for a child aged 2 to 11 travelling without an infant.

Airline policyAmal flies Kuala Lumpur to Jeddah and Madinah, with 110 flights planned for the 2026 Hajj season.

Amal, Malaysia Aviation Group's pilgrimage airline, runs charter and scheduled flights to Jeddah and Madinah from Kuala Lumpur. For the 2026 Hajj season it planned 110 flights for 15,620 pilgrims, fed by 67 domestic flights from cities including Penang, Kota Bharu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu. A parcel service accepts packages at selected hotels in Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah and delivers them to addresses in Malaysia.
